Roger Federer has triumphed over Rafael Nadal in an epic five set match: 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3! The 35 year old has defied the odds to overcome his Spanish rival and came back to defeat Nadal in the final seet with a deficit of 1-3 down. This is Federer’s 18th Grand Slam, and his fifth Australian Open title, which will propel Federer back into the top 10 in the rankings.

The last time the Swiss Maestro won against Nadal in a Grand Slam was all the way back to 2007 Wimbledon, where the Swiss prevailed in five sets; 7–6(97), 4–6, 7–6(73), 2–6, 6–2.

Federer, after the match, commented on his win:

For me it’s all about the comeback, about an epic match with Rafa again. Doing it here in Australia … that I can still do it at my age after not having won a slam for almost five years.

Roger Federer has defied the odds, silenced non-believers, and produced a high-level of majestic attacking tennis which won him his first Grand Slam title in 5 years, and only time will tell if he’ll be add to his tally once again on the legendary grass courts of SW19.

  1. I am a fan of RF of course 🙂 I’ve never seen a MAN like him in such a sport like tennis. He’s humble and respects all the players he faces. I wouldn’t have took him as the AO winner at the beginning of the season, but he proved to be still able to win a grand slam tournament.

check out my blog as well!! and my post about motivation 😉
