Rafael Nadal defeats Stan Wawrinka in straight sets: 6-2 6-3 6-1 to claim “La Decima” (10 titles) at the French Open.

Rafael Nadal has extended his Grand Slam count to 15 with his straight sets victory, and is the only player in the open era to win 10 titles at the same event.

The result never seemed in doubt as the Spaniard led the charge with his heavy, lefty topspin forehand, which kicked up high to Stan Wawrinka’s forehand and backhand and caused numerous unforced errors. Wawrinka did all he could to prevent the Spaniard’s dominance, but even he couldn’t prevent Nadal from claiming the title as Wawrinka’s failed drop shot hit the net, and Nadal fell onto the parisian clay.

With this victory, Rafael Nadal climbs to number 2 in the world, overtaking Novak Djokovic, with the Spaniard now sitting behind Andy Murray when the updated rankings are released on Monday.

Nadal said of his victory: “To win again here is something I cannot describe.”
