2017 General Election ends in Hung Parliament:

The 2017 General Election has ended in a Hung Parliament, with the Conservative Party losing their majority, but still remaining the largest party with 318 seats.

This is one result that no one could have predicted when Theresa May first called the election on the 18th of April. The Conservative Party had a hefty lead over the Labour Party in the first week, as much as 25% in one poll, but that lead slowly dwindled as the weeks progressed.

Theresa May, in a statement at 11:15BST, announced her “reluctant” decision to announce the General Election earlier than expected – for the 8th of June, as compared with with the original timeline of the next General Election being held in 2020.

Conservatives win historic by-election in Copeland – Labour holds onto Stoke

In a historic day, Trudy Harrison of the Conservative party has won the Copeland by-election seat, beating Labour’s Gillian Troughton by 13,748 votes to 11,601. This unexpected turn of events is certainly a boost for Theresa May’s Conservative party, and another let down for the Labour party, who have represented the seat for more than 80 years.
