Prince Philip to retire from royal duties

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has made the decision to retire from his royal duties, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The 95-year old, during a royal lunch – his 26th public engagement of 2017 – was met with apologies regarding the news, with one man saying “I’m sorry to hear you’re standing down”, to which Prince Philip responded in trademark fashion; “Well I can’t stand up much.”

The Duke of Edinburgh will fulfil his scheduled duties until August, but will not accept invitations after this month. Buckingham Palace has sstated that The Queen “will continue to carry out a full programme of official engagements.”
