Theresa May’s Conservative party has apparently done the unexpected; she, rather surprisingly, according to a YouGov, has overturned a Labour monopoly – one that has lasted ever since 1918 – in the heartland of Wales.
The latest YouGov poll regarding voting decisions in Wales has shown that the Conservatives – if the poll is accurate – are ahead of the Labour party by 10%, which could cause a shockwave throughout Welsh politics. Plaid Cymru, and the Liberal Democrats are expected to retain their seats, but surprisingly, they also make no gains in this new poll.
It seems that the increase in support from Wales is regarding Brexit, with many voters choosing to vote for the Conservatives rather than UKIP, which describes the sudden surge. This rather shocking poll also supports the expectation that the Conservatives are on course for a “landslide victory” – a claim that Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron believes wholeheartedly, a fact he revealed in his interview on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show.
